Description
This assignment is to discover the relationships between the 2-dimensional folding patterns and the 3-dimensional origami shapes that result.
Start by folding some origami and then examining the fold patterns you created. Then visit http://www.origami-resource-center.com/crease-patterns.html and look at some more complex examples of crease patterns and their shapes. Take note of the kinds of triangles (by sides and angles) and how they’re grouped within the perimeter of the paper. Trace some direct lines through a “flap” (Lang’s term) and try to come up with 3-5 generalizations that hold true regardless of the pattern, that would effective let you “palm read” any crease pattern.

Defend your 3-5 generalizations, giving concrete examples from fold patterns that back up your claim. Why do you think triangles are critical elements to the crease pattern makeup? What kinds of triangles are the most common and why? Do you see any that are missing- why do you think that is? What role do supplementary and complimentary angles play in the crease pattern make up?
